Greg Abram received his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1986. After a short stint in a start-up, Dr. Abram joined the IBM TJ Watson Research Center to help architect and develop the IBM Visualization Data Explorer, a shared-memory parallel visualization software package first developed for the IBM Power Visualization Server, and later released on a wide range of systems. Dr. Abram led its release into the Open Source community, and began developing other visualization technology that turned up in IBM products. Since moving to the Texas Advanced Computing Center in 2009, he has supported TACC’s offerings in visualization systems and services, including co-developing DisplayCluster, a tool for managing large-format tiled displays. Dr. Abram currently works on grants from DOE and NSF with colleagues from UT, LANL and U. Minnesota.
