Bill Spotz is a researcher at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, in the Center for Computing Research. He is the lead developer of PyTrilinos, the Python interface to Trilinos, Sandia’s suite of high performance scientific software packages. Bill also developed the set of Simple Wrapper Interface Generator (SWIG) typemaps for converting between C/C++ arrays and NumPy arrays. He recently worked with Enthought on the Distributed Array Protocol for supporting Python interfaces to software packages with distributed data structures.

Bill received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, focusing on high-order methods for computational fluid dynamics. His postdoc was with the Advanced Study Program at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO. In 2008, Bill spent two years as a program manager in the Department of Energy Office of Science, Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research in Germantown, MD.
