Joy Kitson is a third year bachelor's student of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at the University of Delaware (UD). Joy has worked under Dr. Michaela Taufer at the Global Computing Lab (GCLab) since the summer of 2017. There, she has done research on processing and visualising satellite soil moisture data and on evaluating the use of logical clocks for ordering MPI messages in record and replay tools. Over the year, she also worked under Dr. Fouad Kiamilev on the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) grid-integrated electric vehicle team. Together, this research helped lead her to Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) this summer, where she analysed performance, portability, and productivity (PPP) on a plasma physics application called VPIC, using the Kokkos abstraction layer, with her mentor, Bob Bird, and partner, Stephen Harrell. This fall, she joined the VIP virtual reality research team and continued her work with the GCLab.

Joy’s research interests include HPC, computational modeling, data accessibility and visualisation, and sustainability. Over the last two years, she has been been involved in a wide range of activities, ranging from theatre to research. Acting with the E-52 and HTAC acting troupes at UD, serving as Treasurer for the UD Board Game Club, and assuming the mantle of Events Coordinator for the UD chapter of ACM have all kept her quite busy.
