DescriptionDebugging and performance optimization are critical steps in the software development process for HPC applications and need to be supported by appropriate tools. Compared to comparable standard tools, however, HPC tools need to fulfill one additional requirement: they need to scale themselves, i.e., work well with applications running at large scale. In this talk, I will highlight the challenges in scaling tools, both for debugging and performance analysis, and will discuss several examples. In particular, I will focus on the use of intuitive visualizations for performance analysis and how it can help to expose and eliminate bottlenecks.
