Achieving Performance on Large-Scale Intel Xeon-Based Systems

Authors: David Martin (Argonne National Laboratory), Melyssa Fratkin (University of Texas), Estela Suarez (Forschungszentrum Juelich)

Abstract: This BoF, organized by the Intel Extreme Computing Users Group (IXPUG), will focus on achieving performance at scale on large Xeon-based systems. The community has gained experience in deploying generations of Xeon Phi and more recently the Xeon Scalable family of processors and is moving to achieve sustained performance. Through invited talks and open discussion, the BoF will provide a forum for tool developers, applications programmers, HPC center staff and industry experts to share tips and techniques gained through deployments on large-scale systems. Special emphasis will be given to performance across different Xeon architectures and in heterogeneous Xeon systems.

Long Description: This BoF, organized by the Intel Extreme Computing Users Group (IXPUG), will focus on achieving performance at scale on large Xeon-based systems.

IXPUG is a worldwide community of hundreds of application users, software developers and HPC center staff that utilize Xeon processors to solve some of the world’s most challenging problems on some of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. This BoF follows productive and well-attended IXPUG BoFs at SC14, SC15, SC16, and SC17. IXPUG has also hosted BoFs and workshops at ISC and HPC Asia. IXPUG holds two major meetings per year—a spring conference in Europe and a fall conference in the North America. The best talks from the IXPUG Fall Conference (September 25-28, 2018) will be invited to give short presentations at the BoF. A panel with open discussion will complete the session and allow attendees to interact with speakers and share their own experiences. The BoF will educate attendees about how to achieve performance at scale and will strengthen the IXPUG community by increasing knowledge sharing and establishing personal connections.
