Nicola Ferrier is a Computer Scientist in ANL's Mathematics and Computer Science Division, and a Senior Fellow of University of Chicago's Computation Institute and Institute of Molecular Engineering, and a member of the Northwestern Argonne Institute for Science and Engineering. Ferrier's research interests are in the use of computer vision (digital images) to control robots, machinery, and devices, with applications as diverse as medical systems, manufacturing, and biology. At Argonne National Lab and University of Chicago she collaborates with scientists from the Institute for Molecular Engineering, Advanced Photon Source, Materials Science, and biological sciences on various projects where images and computation facilitate "scientific discovery". Prior to joining MCS in 2013 she was a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she directed the Robotics and Intelligent Systems lab.
