Francesca Samsel is a Research Associate in the Center for Agile Technology at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds an M.F.A. from the University of Washington. Multidisciplinary collaboration between the arts, sciences and visualization form the core of her research. Focused on identifying artistic principles with the potential to assist scientists in their scientific inquiries, her primary collaborators include: Data Science at Scale, Los Alamos National Laboratory; MPAS Ocean, LANL; Texas Advanced Computing Center; and the Interactive Visualization Lab at the University of Minnesota. She is on the editorial board of Computer Graphics and Applications as well as the co-editor of Art on Graphics. A regular contributor at IEEE Vis, ACM SIGCHI, EuroVis and the AGU Fall Meeting, she presents on projects such as Sculpting Scientific Visualization, Climate Prisms: The Arctic and color for scientific visualization.
