Joel Fuentes was born in San Carlos, Región de Ñuble, Chile, in 1986. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from the Universidad del Bío-Bío. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, USA. From 2012 to 2014, he was a Lecturer at the Universidad del Universidad del Bío-Bío. In 2014 he started his Ph.D., where has worked as a research assistant and collaborated with important companies and labs, such as CERN, Dell EMC and Intel. He is author of several research articles and holds two patents. His research interests include parallel computing, high-performance computing, concurrent data structures and compilers. Mr. Fuentes was a recipient of the JISBD’s Best Paper Award in 2011, Innova Bío-Bío Award in 2012, and invited scholar at the ACM Turing Award in 2017.
