Joseph Schoonover
Joseph received degrees in Applied Mathematics & Physics ( B.S., 2011 ) and in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics ( PhD, 2016 ) from Florida State University. His work primarily focused on separation dynamics of the Gulf Stream during graduate school, which led to a passion in high performance computing and computational fluid dynamics. After leaving a Post-Doc position at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Joseph founded Fluid Numerics, LLC, an organization aimed at training and working alongside researchers to leverage cutting edge compute hardware through hackathons and individual consulting. He also holds a position as an Associate Scientist at University of Colorado in Boulder, where his focus is on performance optimization of operational space weather codes and transitioning operational model databases to the cloud.
