SUMMARY:Enabling Reproducible Microbiome Science through Decentralized Pro
 venance Tracking in QIIME 2
DESCRIPTION:Poster\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nEnabling R
eproducible Microbiome Science through Decentralized Provenance Tracking i
n QIIME 2\n\nNaimey, Keefe\n\nIn this poster, we demonstrate the ways in w
hich automatic, integrated, decentralized provenance tracking in QIIME 2,
a leading microbiome bioinformatics platform, enables reproducible microbi
ome science. We use sample data from a recent study of arid soil microbiom
es (Significant Impacts of Increasing Aridity on the Arid Soil Microbiome
; Neilson et al, 2017), to illustrate specific analyses that QIIME 2 suppo
rts, and to frame our discussion of the QIIME 2 platform.\n\nQIIME 2 actio
ns yield as outputs artifacts integrating the requested data or visualizat
ion with comprehensive data provenance that describes the computational hi
story of that data or visualization, including all methods and parameters
involved in its creation. This approach gives users, reviewers, and reader
s powerful tools for understanding, reproducing, and extending studies. Th
e benefits this approach provides to both the researcher and the scientifi
c community are significant and provide a useful model for research softwa
 re developers across disciplines.
