SUMMARY:Top-Down Performance Analysis of Workflow Applications
DESCRIPTION:Poster\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nTop-Down P
erformance Analysis of Workflow Applications\n\nHerold, Williams\n\nScient
ific simulation frameworks are common to use on HPC systems. They contain
parallelized algorithms and provide various solvers for a specific applica
tion domain. Usually, engineers execute multiple steps to solve a particul
ar problem which are often distributed over multiple jobs. Finding perform
ance bottlenecks and the causing step in such a complex system is very dif
ficult. Therefore in this work, we present a top-down approach that provi
des summarized performance metrics for the workflow, jobs and job steps. T
hese summaries guides the user to identify inefficiencies and determine th
e causing job step. Finally, Vampir can be used for a detailed analysis of
the regarding execution in order to resolve the issue.
