SUMMARY:Distributed Fast Boundary Element Methods
DESCRIPTION:Poster\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nDistribute
d Fast Boundary Element Methods\n\nMerta, Zapletal, Kravcenko\n\nWe presen
t a parallel implementation of the fast boundary element method (BEM) for
the Helmholtz equation. After a brief description of BEM, vectorization of
the computationally most demanding kernels, and shared memory paralleliza
tion, we focus on the distributed memory parallelization using a new appro
ach for distribution of the fast BEM system matrices among computational n
odes. Moreover, we present a modification of the adaptive cross approximat
ion (ACA) method capable of dealing with BEM matrices containing zero bloc
ks, which usually lead to problems for the original ACA algorithm. Numeric
al experiments demonstrating the performance of the implementation were ca
rried out using several Intel architectures.
