This video shows how SCinet was built in Dallas, Texas for SC18 – the international conference for high performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. SCinet combines global volunteers from 85 institutions with international graduate students to plan and assemble $52 million in contributed gear. The equipment was partially assembled in the Kay Bailey Hutchison arena and then deftly and safely moved to the exhibit hall in 14 equipment racks weighing 4.25 tons.
The SCinet network operations center (NOC) in the heart of the exhibit hall seats 17 interdisciplinary teams of 225 volunteer experts, leaders, and scholars. Their efforts are connecting 25 cities on four continents with data intensive demos and experiments in addition to the 13,000 attendees at an SC (an attendance record) at a breaking speed of 4.02 terabits per second.
